New York City police attempted to contain and disperse a crowd of several hundred on Friday. These people gathered in a lower Manhattan park for a social media influencer’s “giveaway” event, video footage showed.
The event was sponsored by live streamer Kai Cenat, best known for programming on social media platforms Twitch and YouTube. It was billed as a “big giveaway” on his Instagram account.
Media footage showed crowds spreading into surrounding streets and police presence increasing at the event in Manhattan’s Union Square.
