The New York City FC reserved a spot for his first final of the MLS with a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union Sunday, but coach Ronny Deila knows his team will have to improve if they want to beat Portland in the decider for the title on Saturday.
Philadelphia took the lead in the Eastern Conference final thanks to an own goal by Alexander Callens before New York responded through Maxi Moralez and Talles Magno.
Deila admitted that his team had not been up to par and that they would have to regroup for a “great fight” against the Timbers on Saturday in Portland.
In Saturday’s Western Conference final, the Timbers beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 to reach their second MLS Cup final in four years, Felipe Mora and Santiago Moreno scoring.
