New York area wakes up to heavy rain and thunder – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – Heavy thunder and heavy rain rocked parts of New York early Thursday as a line of storms moved through the area, with adverse weather conditions expected to continue intermittently throughout the day.

It will not be a full day of thunderstorms, but intermittent showers are expected throughout the three-state area during the afternoon hours.

However, isolated pockets can bring lightning and thunder, as has been seen in the morning hours in parts of Brooklyn, so keep an eye out for sudden weather changes.

The sky will clear up on Thursday night, bringing drier and much cooler conditions to start autumn.

Expect sunny skies on Friday and a high in the mid-60s before temperatures rise back to around 70 degrees by Saturday. Sunday will come with a chance of rain.
