In Russia, at the Zapad-2021 exercises, new types of weapons were used for the first time – combat robots and drones, reports Interfax on Monday, 13 September.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the military for the first time used reconnaissance and fire support robots. In particular, the Uran-9 robots operated in the battle formations of the defending formations. It is argued that the vehicles successfully hit the manpower and armored vehicles of the conditional enemy at a distance of up to 5 thousand meters. And also covered the motorized rifle units.
At the same time, Nerekht’s robots were used for fire support and reconnaissance. Vehicles equipped with a Kord machine gun and an automatic grenade launcher can be used to deliver equipment and ammunition, as well as adjust fire.
In addition, robotic demining complexes Uran-6 were used for engineering and sapper tasks.
It is noted that the actions of robots in the exercises were covered by the tactical laser complex Karyer, which is reportedly capable of detecting and suppressing the optical devices of weapons, armored vehicles and reconnaissance equipment of the enemy.
During the Zapad-2021 exercise, strike drones Pacing and Outpost were also used for the first time.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports that the Terminator tank support combat vehicles were also involved in the exercises. And to support the actions of mobile tactical groups and troops going on the offensive, mobility support detachments were used, which included tanks with trawls, engineering equipment and heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1A Solntsepek.
