New trailer for ‘Babylon’ with Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie: the face of debauchery from an outsider’s point of view

The world premiere of Babylon is less than a month away, and to fill the days until then, Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for the film, which shows the directorial eye of Damien Chazelle (La La Land) has dissolved into beauty.

From the shooting of the last video, it can be seen that with his new project Chazelle decided to be epic in the full sense of the word – with visual richness, diverse storylines and an abundance of characters on the screen.

But while in the first trailer for “Babylon” this opulence referenced the hedonistic side of early 1920s Hollywood, in the second trailer the nonstop revelry contrasts with Assistant Manny’s idealistic outlook.

Played by Diego Calva, Manny enters the turbulent period in show business history to do something significant. He wants to leave behind a film that will last for years and inspire generations after him.

Manny is firmly rooted in his beliefs, which makes Hollywood actors Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) and Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) even more at odds with the ideas that Hollywood in this period is able to inspire for something good.

Jack is an actor at the height of his fame – his face is on magazine covers and on the shoulders of female fans, and Nellie is an up-and-coming actress whose muse is fame, drugs and sex.

In this context, Mani is alone in his belief and efforts to create a film, a mirror of the most beautiful human nature.

It is not helped by the rest of Hollywood representatives, who are only interested in how to make money from the entertainment industry.

The outsider side of early Hollywood, however, will be just one of the storylines that ‘Babylon’ develops.

In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year, Damien Chazelle revealed that the plot of his screenplay will be split into multiple subplots, meaning that in the three-hour epic we will follow countless major and minor stories with their development.

This notion has already drawn mixed reactions among film critics who saw Chazelle’s film for the first time. Some of them say that production has become total chaos without a center, and others – that “Babylon” is an extraordinary feast on the screen.

But whichever way the scales fall, Babylon is one of the must-see titles of the year, not least because of the stunning performances by Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt.

The premiere of Babylon in Bulgaria is scheduled for January 20th.
