The start at the new technical school for elementary school childcare was successful. Twelve technical students at the vocational school center Regensburger Land (BSZ) decided to take their careers in a different direction
Pielenhofen. You take part in the school experiment “Pedagogical Specialist for Primary School Child Care”. The course is being offered for the first time in the Regensburg district and is affiliated to the existing specialist academy for social education at the BSZ. District administrator Tanja Schweiger, school principal Ernestine Schütz and BSZ department head Heidrun Fronek congratulated the young people on their decision.
Against the background that from 2025 a legal right to all-day care in primary school children will be created, it has become imperative to train additional pedagogical specialists and thus counteract the shortage of skilled workers, explains Ernestine Schütz. “I am pleased that our efforts to create additional training opportunities have now been successful and that the new technical school can start operations.” The training occupation is open to all people who have completed an intermediate education and completed vocational training. The previous education does not necessarily have to be in the pedagogical or educational field.
District administrator Tanja Schweiger was very committed to bringing the school trial to the district of Regensburg. After this was successful, she appealed to those responsible: “Now we as the district, in the municipalities and as the sponsors of the respective institutions must all stick together so that we can also provide the trainees with the necessary internship positions.” The district of Regensburg is the only location besides the district of Waldstadt an der Waldnaab where a technical school for primary school childcare has been set up.
With the completion of their training, the educational specialists for elementary school childcare find their new field of activity. Either in the school area in simple or extended lunchtime care or in open or tied all-day care; or in the area of child and youth welfare, such as in after-school care centers or children’s homes, in the age group of six to ten year olds.
The free two-year training is divided into a one-year mostly theoretical and another practical training section. Classes in the first year of training take place partly in the rooms of the BSZ Regensburger Land in Plattlinger Straße and partly in the rooms of the specialist academy for social education in Pielenhofen. The first phase of training is followed by a year of paid internship in a facility in the elementary school sector, accompanied by the technical school. For the training, financial support can be applied for through Aufstiegs-BAföG.
