Kuujjuaq, QC – A new $55 million student residence in kuujjuaq is⁣ now open, considerably expanding access to educational opportunities for Nunavik residents. The two-story building, funded by federal and provincial governments ‍through the Quebec Ministry of education, directly ⁣addresses a critical barrier to post-secondary education in the region.

The residence is notably crucial for students⁢ enrolled in the new certificate in education program, developed in collaboration with mcgill University.⁢ This program allows residents to obtain a recognized educational qualification, paving the⁤ way for more Inuit to become teachers within nunavik.Previously, students⁢ needing to attend in-person classes were limited by the availability⁤ of housing.

Kativik Ilisarniliriq, the school board responsible for education ‌in Nunavik,‌ highlighted ⁤the⁤ residence’s impact‍ on program accessibility. Without sufficient housing, many students ‍outside of Kuujjuaq would have been unable⁤ to register for the certificate program.
