new strain of COVID-19: WHO will urgently meet for a meeting

World health organization on Friday, November 26, will hold an emergency meeting due to a new potentially dangerous strain of coronavirus. We are talking about variant B.1.1.529, which contains 32 mutations.

WHO’s technical director for coronavirus, Maria Van Kerkhove, said the new option is worrying. Her words leads CNBC.

“So far, we know that this variant has a large number of mutations. The concern is that many mutations can affect the behavior of the virus,” she explained.

At the same time, Kerkhove stressed that it is too early to worry.

It will take several days to determine the potential effects of the strain on humans, she said.

Recall that B.1.1.529 discovered by British scientists… A new variant of the coronavirus was recorded in Botswana, South Africa and Hong Kong. A total of ten cases are known so far.

The researchers said many mutations could be resistant to vaccines. Also, this strain has the potential to become more infectious than Delta.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Delta has become the dominant strain of coronavirus – it accounts for 99% of all cases of morbidity in the world over the past two months.
