New SGE defender: Wildert Eintracht Frankfurt now at RB?

Eintracht Frankfurt has to deal with the departure of defensive ace Evan Ndicka. Did the Hessians find what they were looking for in terms of a successor at RB?

Frankfurt am Main/Salzburg – Eintracht Frankfurt is currently riding the wave of success in the Bundesliga and Europa League. Defense ace Evan N’dicka (22) also played a huge part in this. It is questionable that the filigree Frenchman will stay on the Main beyond the end of the season. Therefore, the SBU managers are looking for an adequate replacement, which could perhaps come from the RB universe.

Like the online portal “Football Transfers” reports, the Frankfurt team around sports director Markus Krösche (41) should not be averse to a commitment from Jérôme Onguéné (23). The beefy Cameroonian is currently employed by Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig’s unofficial farm team.

In complete contrast to N’dicka, whose star only really rose with Eintracht, Onguéné already has a lot of experience in various leagues – including the Bundesliga.

In January 2017, the 1.87 meter tall defender switched from his training club FC Sochaux to VfB Stuttgart, where he didn’t last long due to a lack of success. From here on, a loan aria began for the young defender, which also led him to Serie A with FC Genoa.

In Salzburg, Onguéné also only played moderately at the beginning of the current season before he really took off and played ten league, five out of six possible Champions League and two cup matches. He also contributed a total of two goals and an assist.

The contract of the eight-time Cameroon international with Salzburg expires in the summer of 2022, and an extension of his working paper seems more than unlikely.

At the latest when a sale of N’dicka should be a thing of the past – and that would flush a lot of money into the coffers of the eagle bearers – Onguéné could be the right one-to-one replacement.

But in addition to some top international clubs, Bundesliga competitor VfL Wolfsburg is also said to be courting the young defender.
