The princess has also got her own adjutant, an assistant, who was appointed in Minister of State in December.

Postponed birthday

In mid-December, the Government announced that the birthday had to be postponed due to the pandemic, but the big day will still be marked on Friday.

The government’s planned gift to the princess was a gala dinner at Oslo’s new library Deichman Bjørvika on Thursday 20 January, with music and other cultural elements.

Broad participation from all over the country was planned, especially by young people.

– Government Day is a big event in the lives of all young people. This applies not least to a heir to the throne who will represent Norway and the Norwegian people, said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on 16 December last year.

He said that he had looked forward to celebrating Princess Ingrid Alexandra on Government Day, but that it was not possible to carry it out now.

– I still hope she has a nice celebration with her loved ones, he said.

Historic day

She was born at Rikshospitalet in Oslo on January 21, 2004. She was baptized in the Castle Chapel in Oslo by a former bishop, Gunnar Stålsett, and it was His Majesty King Harald who carried her to the baptism.

The princess is number two in the line of succession, after her father Crown Prince Haakon. As the princess is heir to the throne, her official day is an anniversary in Norwegian history.
