While Netflix normally includes the biggest film and series highlights in its program at the beginning of the month and / or weekly on Friday, in February 2021 it is exceptionally in the middle of the month. Because four films start today that we can recommend to you.

“Berlin Alexanderplatz”

For us, “Berlin Alexanderplatz” is one of the best films of 2020. We received 4.5 out of 5 stars for Burhan Qurbani’s reinterpretation of the legendary classic novel by Alfred Döblin. You can find the complete review of the “powerful, garish, large-scale and large-illustrated Berlin film” here:

In the film, director Qurbani tells of Francis (Welket Bungué), who fled his homeland Guinea-Bissau and ended up in Berlin. There he met Reinhold (Albrecht Schuch), who wanted to recruit him as a drug dealer, and fell in love with the escort girl Mieze (Jella Haase). But Francis soon realizes that as a refugee without papers it is not that easy to be a good person …

“The Danish Girl”

For “The Danish Girl”, main actor Eddie Redmayne was nominated for a second Oscar the following year after his award for “The Discovery of Infinity”, as was his screen partner Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”), who actually has an Academy Award. We gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars for a soulful, impressively played story.

In “The Danish Girl” Tom Hooper (“The King’s Speech”) tells a story of the painter Einar (Redmayne), set in Denmark in the 1920s, who at some point not only discovered his feminine side, but also soon made up the essence of his being . And so he becomes Lili. His / her loving wife Gerda (Vikander) is always at his / her side.

“Jurassic World”

There is also 3.5 out of 5 stars for “Jurassic World”, with which the “Jurassic Park” series was continued in 2015 as a crashing summer blockbuster. Director Colin Trevorrow cannot build on the pure cinema magic of the classic from 1993 staged by Steven Spielberg, but the dinosaur hunt is definitely entertaining:

In addition to the theme park that gives the film its title, the focus of “Jurassic World” is also two new dinosaur tamers: Park manager Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and lizard trainer Owen (Chris Pratt) have to fight for survival together with two children when the dinosaurs break out on the island …

“Ted 2”

And also for “Ted 2” we gave 3.5 out of 5 stars, because the “coarse and charming rowdy comedy is a funny hodgepodge of dirty gags, clever pop culture references and crazy guest appearances”, as it says in our review:

After “Family Guy” – and “American Dad” creators Seth MacFarlane had already let loose the living teddy bear on the audience for the first time in “Ted”, the plot in Part 2 now revolves around Teds (to be reached by an involuntary sperm donor) Desire for children and his fight for his rights as a thinking, feeling being, which he fights out together with his best friend John (Mark Wahlberg) and the young lawyer Samantha (Amanda Seyfried).

You can also find the rather unsuccessful fantasy adventure “The Seventh Son” with Jeff Bridges and Ben Barnes on Netflix and the next interactive Netflix adventure after “Bandersnatch” with Bear Grylls’ “You against the wilderness – the film”.
