George RR Martin, notorious for the slowness of his work, apparently increases his writing speed. Martin wrote on his blog that he would continue the next part, “The Winds of Winter“, „at a steady pace” write. But, he admitted, “I still have a long way to go“. Still, 71-year-old Martin said he hoped that he would someday finish a convention scheduled for 2021.
The pandemic helped George RR Martin concentrate. He had consulted with HBO about plans to continue Game of Thrones and enjoyed his newfound fame. This led to accusations by some fans that the last books in the series would never be finished. His last published work was , came out in 2011.
Some fans also hoped that Martin would find a more satisfying ending for the saga than the HBO series, which showed some of them not impressed by their abrupt decisions.
Isolated from the rest of the world helps write Game of Thrones books

Martin claimed that he had completed three chapters in the past two weeks. We had previously reported that George RR Martin continued to write in quarantine.
Martin said he hoped to present the new work at a New Zealand fan convention in 2021: “I hope that both Covid-19 and The Winds of Winter will be finished“.
„But no, that doesn’t mean the book will be finished tomorrow or published next weekHe warned. “It will be a huge book and I still have a long way to go.“
George RR Martin apologizes
„A long time ago, in 1999, when I was immersed in A Storm of Swords, I wrote an average of 150 manuscript pages per month“, he said: “I’m afraid I will never reach that pace again. When I look back, I’m not sure how I did it back then. Indeed, it must have been a fever.“
Martin continues to fuel expectations and says he has new material about some well-known GoT characters, including “Cersei, Asha, Tyrion, Ser Barristan and Areo Hotah“.
Martin has some more distractions planned. He will host the Hugo Awards. He has recorded some video clips for the show. “A wise precaution, because I am hopelessly overwhelmed with Zoom and Skype and similar things. But that is much less time consuming and distracting than flying to the other end of the world“.
Martin closed with a call back to one of the favorite characters of the GoT. “Now you have to excuse me. Arya calls. I think she wants to kill someone.“
