New mobilization of pensioners | Radio Bilbao

Several hundred people have joined in Bilbao the demonstration called by the Movement of Pensioners of Bizkaia, where they have argued that in the current situation of the coronavirus they put “health first”, but have demanded that “not forget or dilate “an answer to your demands.

The protesters have left at noon from Plaza Moyúa with masks and keeping a safe distance, divided into several groups with their banners, to finish in Arenal, where they have read a statement.

The Aste Nagusia was canceled by the mayor of the city, Juan Mari Aburto, and on Monday it was common to organize this demonstration. This year the pensioners have not wanted to lose tradition and have called the march despite the situation in which the Basque Country finds itself, in a health emergency since last Monday.

However, the protesters defend that they are exercising their right to demonstrate. But some groups, such as Ados-Consenso, have not attended this demonstration because they say that the current situation is not conducive to carrying out this kind of mobilization.

As every Monday, the protesters have chanted slogans demanding pensions worth 1,080 euros and the repeal of the labor reform and the pension reform. That is why they defend that they are forced to go out to change this unfair situation.

The spokesman for the Bizkaia pensioners’ movement, Juan Antonio Nicolás, said when he arrived in Arenal that the situation in nursing homes after so many months of the pandemic is very worrying. From the group they demand “urgent and forceful measures to help many families.”

The next demonstration of the pensioners will be on September 7, “when the pensioners will return to take to the streets again,” said Nicolás.
