New electric cars – Ten popular without VAT

The government has announced the introduction of partial VAT on electric cars starting in the new year. This means that cars costing over NOK 500,000 will receive 25% VAT on the sum exceeding half a million NOK.

We looked at the logging stats from the last quarter and found the most popular electric cars that will fall under the magic limit of VAT. The bottom line is that you still have plenty of exciting, VAT-free electric cars to choose from.

Here’s what the VAT will look like

However, the three best sellers in the registration statistics do not fall below the VAT limit. Both number one, Tesla Model Y, number two, Volkswagen ID. The 4 GTX and number three, the Skoda Enyaq, are so expensive that they will receive VAT starting in the new year.

Either way, it won’t have a big impact on the price of many of these cars. If the car costs NOK 600.00, it will receive NOK 100,000 VAT, which will mean a price increase of NOK 25,000. Some car dealers are already advertising that they have reduced the price corresponding to this VAT surcharge.

Waiver of VAT

The most popular car that sneaks under the VAT limit is the Tesla Model 3. Of course, you have to settle for the car with the smallest battery. Plus, you don’t have all-wheel drive, which many people prefer.

New challengers on the way

New electric competitors such as Nissan Ariya, Toyota bZ4X and Renault Mégane E-Tech are also on the way, but they have yet to provide customers with enough cars to establish themselves on the bestseller lists.

Here are the ten most popular electric cars that fall below the VAT limit. The data is taken from the Information Council for Road Traffic’s Vehicle Data. In the price we have included transport and registration costs (10,000 NOK) and the winter wheel package (10,000 NOK). These prices can vary a bit.
