New double glazed windows for the Tesla Model Y

Thanks to the absence of an internal combustion engine, Tesla – like all electric cars – are particularly quiet for those who observe and listen to them from outside. However, this aspect does not always translate into operational silence even for those inside the passenger compartment, and indeed there are several reports of electric and hybrid cars that are too noisy for those who use them, due to the currents of air and wind hitting the moving car.

To combat this, Tesla has committed to installing thicker and more effective soundproofing panels on its cars, especially on the doors. There are also aftermarket soundproofing kits designed specifically for those with this problem.

This time, however, Tesla has gone a step further, adding new windows made with double-glazed glass on the most recent Model Y.

We know this thanks to a Reddit user, who yesterday posted a photo of a new Model Y in which it is clearly seen that the window is made of two coupled layers, something that had never been present in the past.

This is an interesting and long overdue solution, after Elon Musk was questioned in October 2019 about the excessive noise problems of the Model 3. A Model 3 owner claimed that the noise inside the cabin was excessive. , and that the data collected confirmed his theory; the same theory was later confirmed by Bjørn Nyland, a famous content creator, who showed how the Model 3 ranks very badly in the ranking of the quietest cars.

In recent months, Tesla’s production has focused particularly onpassenger compartment soundproofing, even going so far as to design a type of rubber that should further reduce the noise inside the car.

Tesla continues to improve the production of its vehicles by listening to the advice of its customers, and our hope is that these improvements will also be integrated into the cheapest models.
