Apple TV + Announces Louis Armstrong Documentary

Apple has just announced the start of “Lisey’s Story” for June 4th, but has also confirmed a documentary film about Louis Armstrong. This is called “Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong” and comes from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.

The documentary, produced under Apple’s first-look agreement with Imagine Documentaries, is being produced by Sacha Jenkins (“Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men”), Julie Anderson, Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes. Jenkins is also directing. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are executive producers

The project is being produced in collaboration with Universal Music Groups Polygram Entertainment, with Michele Anthony and David Blackman also on board as executive producers.

The film offers a definitive look into the life and legacy of the master musician as the founding father of jazz, the first pop star and cultural ambassador of the United States. He has been loved by millions of people around the world, but is often referred to as wrong for not doing enough to support the civilian population. In reality, his struggle for social justice was fueled by his fame and willingness to break his silence on issues of segregation and patriotism. With the full support of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, the filmmakers have access to a treasure trove of never-before-seen archival material, including hundreds of hours of audio recordings, footage, photographs and personal journals used exclusively for the first major documentary entirely devoted to his life .
