The corona virus pandemic or Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in our lives, a new variant of the virus has spread panic not only in the UK, but also outside. Scientists are working hard to trace the origin of the new virus, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The even chilling news is that the new virus is 56 percent faster to spread, according to experts. According to recent research, this new variant of the virus is more contagious and can spread faster.

In a recent study conducted at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, that was reported Times of India, experts claim that this new strain of the novel coronavirus could cause more deaths in the UK.

As a result of increased transmission, the number of cases will also increase. Experts fear this could lead to more hospitalizations and Covid-related deaths in 2021 than in 2020.

Experts also say that the regulation is easing lockdown prompting a massive return of the virus, which means it may be necessary to speed up vaccine rollout to reduce the burden of disease.

Where was the new variant found?

A new variant of Covid-19 was discovered in southeast England in November after the British Government reimposed restrictions on the UK and surrounding areas.

Not only that, many other countries including ours have also reimposed travel restrictions and suspended all flights from the UK at this time. A 14-day quarantine has been mandatory for people arriving from the UK.

The new variant of the corona virus is named “VUI 202012/01”. This includes genetic mutations in the protein that can cause the virus to spread easily and directly, making it even more deadly. This new variant has 17 mutations that affect the shape of the virus, including the spike protein from which the family name coronavirus is derived.

With the new variant virus, the three most common symptoms of fever, dry cough and loss of smell and taste remain the same. However, there are seven other symptoms that have been associated with the new variant. Symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhea, headaches, muscle aches, and mental confusion.

How does the virus affect children?

The mutation of the virus makes it easy for them to enter human cells which makes children more susceptible to infection and just as susceptible to viruses as adults. With the new strains in the pictures, we may see more children infected with the virus.
