New coronavirus outbreak in China: 4.7 million Kashgar residents are tested

How the virus got into Kashgar is not clear. Kashgar is located in the Xinjiang (formerly Chinese Turkestan) region of Central Asia and was also hit in the summer. Since Kashgar is not that far from China’s western border, the contamination could also come from neighboring Pakistan or the Central Asian republics of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan or Kazakhstan.
