New Corona Rules for Restaurants in New York – Rolling Pin

Die Mega-Metropole „on pause“

In March, the hustle and bustle in the mega-metropolis of New York came to an abrupt end: After strict exit restrictions turned life in the Big Apple upside down, New York was considered the American corona hotspot par excellence, with up to 900 deaths daily for weeks. According to the Tagesschau, the mega-metropolis was “on pause” for around 100 days.

New York is now a figurehead

In the meantime, New York is considered a role model among the American states due to the stable and low numbers of new infections. On the other hand, bad news from Florida, Texas and California are all the more worrying: Every day the states report new highs for corona newly infected people.

For fear of a second corona wave, new regulations for bars and restaurants have been issued in the metropolis of New York.

Strict corona rules for gastronomy

So that New York does not soon follow the corona trend of the other states, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued new corona-related regulations for the catering industry on Thursday. Restaurants and bars in the state are only allowed to dispense alcohol to those people who also consume food, according to an official statement from the New York government on Thursday. The sale of alcoholic beverages is only allowed to seated guests who keep the minimum distance to other people.

„Three Strikes and You’re closed”- Initiative

In addition, restaurants that violate the distance and mask requirement three times are threatened with immediate closure, as the New York government further announced. Serious violations can lead to the withdrawal of the serving license or ultimately to the rigorous closure of the restaurant in an emergency. In addition, the names and locations of those restaurants that the state alcohol authority accuses of violating the applicable regulations are published and updated weekly.

When the situation of the bar operators in New York will normalize again remains to be seen.
