NEW YORK – Ever wanted to feel like a celebrity with your own personal bodyguard to protect you? Now there is an app for that.
Tammy Johnson runs her errands on the Upper West Side with an unusual partner: private security. She’s not a celebrity, just an everyday New Yorker, but 2020 has her questioning her personal safety.
“As much as I love my neighborhood, we know that safety is not always the best, says Johnson.” There has been an increase in the number of homeless people who are basically all over the neighborhood where that was not the situation before and it’s a bit worrying for me. I’m always away from home and sometimes I’m a little scared. “
Johnson resorted to a relatively new app called Bond. The creator of the company last month launched the bodyguard service where clients can purchase protection for as little as $ 30 for 30 minutes.
The show comes as New Yorkers in the Johnson neighborhood say they feel increasingly unsafe as the country prepares for a potentially controversial choice.
“There is the perfect storm of COVID, the politics, the increase in crime, all of those things combined can create a dangerous situation,” says his bodyguard.
Johnson’s bodyguard is a NYPD veteran who spent 20 years in the department’s intelligence division.
Security concerns also prompted Manhattan businesses to take precautions. On Friday, Macy’s and other stores in Midtown began covering windows before Election Day.
