New actions farmers on Monday, size not yet clear

Farmers plan to protest again on Monday against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. It is unclear how and where they will do this, nor is it known how many farmers plan to participate.

Mark van den Oever of Farmers Defense Force (FDF) announces the actions in a video† “We had consultations with all tractor leaders in the Netherlands yesterday. The conclusion: we are not going to take it. From 12 noon on Monday, everything that can roll will roll.”

“That thick demonstration in Stroe did not help at all. There is a great cry among the supporters to throw in the towel,” continues Van den Oever. Still, he says FDF is not coordinating the actions. “We as FDF have decided not to commit ourselves to that and to withdraw from the fight and not to coordinate anything. We have experienced that before so you know what you have to do.”

‘Reserving citizens’

In the video, the FDF leader calls on citizens to be spared as much as possible in the protests. “That may not always work, but hopefully by now the citizens have got the idea why we are so rebellious.”

The Agractie group is not reporting anything about plans for Monday, but foreman Bart Kemp already announced on Friday that farmers will continue to take action in the coming period. The actions will sometimes be a nuisance, he predicted.

The police say that if there are indeed actions and traffic is affected, “the line will be the same as Wednesday”, during the protests in Stroe. “It is fine to exercise your rights, but tractors on the highway are prohibited,” a spokesperson told the ANP. Several hundred farmers were then fined.
