New 24-hour death record in Spain, with 838 deaths

Sad new record in Spain …

The number of confirmed cases reached 78,797, an increase of 9.1% in one day in the second country most bereaved by Covid-19 after Italy, and which will further tighten the rules of containment. Aside from an inflection on Thursday, the number of daily deaths continues to increase day by day in Spain, where health authorities hope to approach the peak of contagion, observing a slowdown in the rate of daily increase in the number of cases and deaths the last days.

The number of people healed also increased by 19.7% in 24 hours to 14,709. After Italy, Spain decided on Saturday to tighten the measures taken to fight Covid-19 by ordering the cessation of “non-essential activities”. “All workers in non-essential activities will have to stay at home for the next two weeks”, that is until Thursday, April 9, the start of the Easter weekend, said the head of government Pedro Sanchez.

Health, food or energy in particular are considered essential activities. This measure must be approved Sunday at an extraordinary council of ministers which should specify which sectors exactly are targeted.

The goal is to further reduce mobility and therefore the spread of the virus while the Spanish have already been subjected since mid-March to strict confinement which has been extended until April 11. Until now, they could only leave their home to work if teleworking was not possible, buy food, get medical treatment or get their dog out quickly.
