New 13 “MacBook Pro: More performance, better keyboard

Apple’s error-prone butterfly keyboard is history: On Monday, the manufacturer presented an updated version of the 13 “MacBook Pro, which now also uses the” Magic Keyboard “with scissors mechanism and a larger key stroke (1 millimeter). Just like its big brother at 16 “Display a physical Esc key replaces the virtual and hard-to-find Esc key on the” Touch Bar “. The layout of the arrow keys has also been corrected: as a classic inverted T, they should be easier to feel with your fingers.

After around five years, Apple has erased the butterfly keyboard, which is as flat as it is controversial, from all new mobile Macs. The integration of the Touch Bar in the MacBook Pro does not change, however, it is still standard on all models.

The new keyboard with scissors mechanism and Esc-Key is now also installed in the new 13 “MacBook Pro.

The new MacBook Pro is equipped with quad-core processors from Intel (10th generation), as Apple also announced. However, this only applies to the more expensive models with four USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 3), the entry-level models with two ports remain with the older processors of the previous year (Intel’s 8th processor generation).

The integrated iris graphics deliver a performance increase of up to 80 percent compared to the previous model series – and now support Apple’s 6K screen Pro Display XDR in full resolution.

Apple has doubled the storage space of the integrated SSD, the entry-level model now holds 256 GB instead of just 128 GB. Optionally, SSDs up to 4 TB can be configured, at an additional cost of 1500 euros – and only for the more expensive models. A subsequent replacement of the SSD is not planned in this model series, the flash memory should still be soldered to the main board in the new version. Apple promises read speeds of up to 3 GB / s.

For the first time, customers have the option of configuring the 13 “MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM. In certain models, 16 GB of memory are now available ex works, which is connected faster at 3733 MHz.
Nothing changes in price: The entry-level model of the 13 “MacBook Pro costs just under 1,500 euros and should be delivered and sold later this week. The models with 4 ports have become more expensive, here Apple has the entry price in Germany of just under 2000 euros raised to 2130 euros.
