UMC Children’s Hospital of Nevada Expands Pediatric Critical Care Team

Las Vegas, NV – UMC Children’s Hospital of Nevada is actively seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Intensivist to join its expanding Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The hospital currently employs six Pediatric Intensivists and is looking to add a seventh to its team.

Did you know? UMC Children’s Hospital is the only Level 1 Trauma Center and certified Burn Center in Nevada, serving patients from Nevada, Arizona, California, and Utah.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Comprehensive Care

The hospital features a 14-bed, multi-disciplinary Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) that functions as an acute medical, surgical, and trauma unit. The PICU handles approximately 1,000 admissions annually. Adjacent to the PICU is a 6-bed Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMC), also managed by the PICU Intensivists. This integrated programme offers a wide array of subspecialty services, including Pediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) rescue.

Expanding Pediatric Sedation Unit

UMC Children’s Hospital also boasts a rapidly growing, dedicated Pediatric Sedation Unit managed by the Pediatric Intensivists. The unit provides more than 700 sedations each year, highlighting the increasing demand for specialized pediatric sedation services.

Collaborative Environment and Specialized Support

The PICU service is complemented by several other specialized units, including a Pediatric Hospitalist service, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department. This collaborative environment ensures comprehensive care for young patients.

The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical and teaching skills. Responsibilities include:

  • Clinical coverage of the PICU, PIMC, and Pediatric Sedation Units.
  • Participation in program progress.
  • Training of Pediatric and Emergency Medicine residents and medical students rotating through the PICU.
