The canton of Neuchâtel canceled Monday the exams of gymnastic maturity because of the coronavirus pandemic. He considers that taking into account the grades for the year is sufficient to assess the skills of high school students and guarantee their aptitude for university studies.
The Department of Education and the Family (DEF) reminds in a press release that the grades for the year already constitute, in normal times, the main condition which prevails to the success or the failure to obtain this certificate. title recognized at Swiss level.
The Federal Council has given up freedom
Some students, however, remain subject to examinations. This is the case of students who follow the training in specialized maturity with an educational option or those following the “Dubs gateway” allowing holders of a professional or specialized maturity to be admitted to universities or polytechnics federal.
Last Wednesday, the Federal Council decided to leave to the cantons the freedom to maintain or not the ordinary session of the examinations of maturity. Using their freedom, most cantons give up marks and exams until the end of the school year.
