The anime series takes place in the same universe as the science fiction role-playing game, but a new and independent story is told. The focus is on a street kid who tries to survive in a city of the future – known as Night City – which is obsessed with technology and body modifications. Because the boy could lose everything, he decides to become an Edgerunner – a lawless mercenary, also known as cyberpunk.

Netflix has ordered a first season with ten episodes for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”. Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (“Promare”), the screenplay was written by Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka. Akira Yamaoka is responsible for the soundtrack.
The series is produced by the Japanese animation studio Trigger together with CD Projekt RED and Netflix.
