Netflix is testing a feature to prevent password sharing between users, writes the BBC. In the Standard and Premium tariffs, it is possible to watch content on several devices at the same time, but the terms of service state that they are to be members of one family within one household. Some people interpret this rule in their own way, agree with three friends and share a higher tariff, which will also provide them with better picture quality.
Netflix is trying to make this sharing more difficult. However, it is not clear what percentage of users violate the terms of service in this way. Some users now report that a message appeared on the screen “If you don’t live in the same household as the owner of this account, you need your own Netflix account.”.
The basic tariff will cost CZK 199, but it will also only provide SD resolution. If you want higher image quality, you will automatically get more accounts for your family. Everyone can have their own viewing history. HBO Go, Amazon Prime or Disney + also allow more accounts for the service. However, the conditions of one household are the same for them. And this condition partially allows you to check accounts, for example, by IP address.

Users who receive this message on the screen can confirm their affiliation to the account (to one household) by entering the code that will be sent to them by e-mail or SMS message. So far, Netflix is testing and it is not certain that it will eventually deploy this feature to everyone.
Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings said in 2016 that account sharing was still unavoidable and the service would have to live with it. The number of Netflix users recently exceeded 200 million and the company did this benevolent sharing it seems to be slowly re-evaluated.
