Netflix drops brutal trailer for intriguing war series

Netflix comes with the historical war series Barbarians. A German production about a famous battle.

Now goes Netflix with a first bloody trailer for the German series Barbarians even further back in time, all the way to AD 9. Or, as the series is called in German: Barbarians.

The Roman Empire dominated Europe, but that was far from enough for Emperor Augustus. He sent his armies in all directions, with the ultimate goal of conquering the whole world.

Barbarians is mainly about the famous Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. A famous historical moment that took place in Germany, in the Teutoburg Forest (duh).

The Romans used dirty tricks to quickly gain ground. The Roman soldiers went undercover to win allies within the Germanic tribes who ruled locally. Then they used those connections to take out the tribes completely and quickly reclaim area after area.

The exception to that rule? The Germanic tribes that ruled the Teutoburg Forest. They managed to stop the rapid expansion of the Roman Empire by means of tactical ingenuity. The result? A battle that had an effect on the nationalism of Germany well into the nineteenth century. They really saw those Germanic tribes as their common ancestors.

In other words, the perfect source material for a bloody war series full of violence, intrigue and twists. The first trailer bodes well. You don’t want to fight against the green screens and incur limited budgets. However, it looks like Netflix’s deep pockets are going to make that happen Barbarians is going to be a potential gem.
