Netanyahu Hails Israel‘s ‘stunning Comeback’ After 7 October Attacks, Vows to ‘Finish the Job’
NEW YORK – Addressing the United Nations General Assembly today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a shift in the balance of power following the Hamas-lead attacks on October 7, 2023, characterizing Israel’s response as a “stunning comeback.” He vowed to continue military operations until Hamas is eradicated and warned against allowing Iran to rebuild its nuclear capabilities.
Netanyahu referenced a map previously presented to the UN illustrating what he termed “Iran’s terror axis,” asserting it poses a threat to global peace and Israel’s existence. He accused Iran and its regional allies of attempting to “tighten a noose of death around our throats” through “acts of unspeakable savagery” committed during the October 7th attacks.
Tho, Netanyahu stated the past year has dramatically altered the strategic landscape.”We’ve hammered the Houthis, including yesterday. We crushed the bulk of hamas’s terror machine. We crippled Hezbollah, taking out most of its leaders and much of its weapons arsenal…and most importantly, we devastated Iran’s atomic weapons and ballistic missiles programmes,” he said.
He specifically highlighted the 12-day conflict with Iran as a pivotal moment, claiming fulfillment of a promise made with former U.S. President Donald Trump to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “President Trump and I promised to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. And we delivered on that promise,” Netanyahu stated. He urged the reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran to prevent the rebuilding of its nuclear program, emphasizing continued vigilance.
Turning to Gaza, Netanyahu affirmed Israel’s commitment to eliminating remaining Hamas forces, stating, “The final remnants of Hamas are holed up in Gaza City. They vow to repeat the atrocities of 7 October again and again. That is why Israel must finish the job.”
In a direct message to hostages held in Gaza, broadcast live into the territory,Netanyahu stated,”This is Prime Minister Netanyahu speaking to you live from the United Nations. We have not forgotten you. Not even for a second …We will not rest until we bring all of you home.”
Netanyahu also strongly condemned recent decisions by France, Britain, Australia, Canada, and other nations to recognize a palestinian State, calling it “a mark of shame” and a reward for “the most savage terrorists on earth.” he insisted Israel “will not allow you to shove a terrorist state down our throats,” asserting that opposition to a palestinian state reflects the policy of the Israeli state and its people. He concluded by noting that despite Israel’s strength, attempts to destroy the nation persist, but Israel now possesses the ability to effectively defend itself.
