Netanyahu announces that he plans to apply for an arrest warrant against him

by Ethan Caldwell

(CNN) – The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced on Wednesday that Israel will appeal against the two arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The statement said: “The State of Israel does not recognize the authority of the International Criminal Court and the validity of the arrest warrants issued against the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense.”

The news came after Netanyahu met with US Senator Lindsey Graham in Jerusalem on Wednesday. The statement said that Graham told Netanyahu that he would work to strengthen measures in Congress against the International Criminal Court and the countries that cooperate with it.

The statement said: “If the court rejects the appeal, this will make it clearer to Israel’s friends in the United States and to the world how biased the International Criminal Court is against the State of Israel.”

When the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant and a senior Hamas official last week, it accused them of committing war crimes during and after the October 7 attacks on Israel and the Israeli invasion of Gaza that followed.
