Updated Nesty Diesel Most Finnish vehicles reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 percent compared to using fossil diesel.
“We reduce our emissions by investing in plant protein products and energy efficiency, as well as efficient transportation planning. Recycling and the circular economy have also been important points in the development of our business, and this circular economic cooperation with Neste is fully in line with our goals. Generally speaking, our restaurants in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania produce up to 420 tons of used cooking oil, which is collected and transported as environmentally friendly as possible. Neste uses cooking oil and other renewable waste and remaining raw materials to produce renewable diesel, which is also used in Hesburger trucks. Says Henny Santos, Managing Director of Hesburger Communications: “Since used cooking oil is collected by trucks transporting goods to restaurants, it will not increase mileage.”
Hesburger vehicles, which Neste will start using renewable diesel, will cover approximately 680,000 kilometers annually. By replacing fossil diesel with renewable Neste diesel, the annual reduction in greenhouse gases is comparable to removing 350 private cars from Finnish roads in one year.
Only 6 percent of Finns believe that climate action is simply outside the home
In September 2021, Neste and Hesburger conducted a consumer survey on climate measures for 1,000 people in Finland. Overall, 52 percent of respondents thought that daily climate activities are easier on issues related to their homes and livelihoods. Outside the home, for example, when going to work, traveling or eating at a restaurant, climate action is more difficult. 65% of respondents considered that businesses and consumers have a shared responsibility for climate action.
“Combating climate change requires concrete action and close cooperation between companies. This circular collaboration with Hesburger is a concrete example of how collaboration can improve sustainability. At the same time, our climate action creates value for consumers who visit Hesburger restaurants, cooking oil can be reused. preparing french fries as a feedstock for renewable diesel to reduce transport emissions. In this way, we can provide consumers with the opportunity to make more responsible daily purchasing decisions in Finland and the Baltic region, ”says Heidi. Peltonen, Head of Neste’s Sustainable Marketing and Services Partnership.
