Nepal’s Prime Minister Sharma Oli has recommended the dissolution of the parliament

Kathmandu: Another political crisis in Nepal. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has recommended the dissolution of parliament. Sharma Oli has recommended to President Bidya Devi Bhandari to dissolve the parliament as the power struggle within the party with former Premier Prachanda escalates.

The decision to hand over the recommendation to the President was taken at an emergency cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Sunday morning, a member of the Communist Party of Nepal Standing Committee told PTI.

It is reported that the Prime Minister has informed the President about the decision of the Cabinet in person at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Meanwhile, protests are rising within the ruling Communist Party of Nepal against Oli’s decision. Madhav Kumar, a senior NCP leader and former prime minister, said Oli’s action was unconstitutional.

Legal experts point out that the Prime Minister does not have the power to dissolve Parliament under the Constitution. Oli was under strong pressure to withdraw the ordinance related to the recent amendment to the Constitutional Council. Madhav and the violent factions have repeatedly demanded that the PM step down to strengthen anti-Oli movements.

The Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, has called an emergency meeting amid a new political crisis.
