Neil Young wants Spotify to choose: ‘Joe Rogan or me’

Neil Young wants his music removed from the Swedish streaming service in response to podcaster Joe Rogan’s vaccine misinformation.

Spotify gets to choose: they can have Rogan or Young. But not both.’ On his site, Neil Young published an open letter to his managers asking to remove his music from Spotify. The Canadian singer blames the streaming service for “spreading misinformation about vaccines.”

Young’s target is Joe Rogan, who in his podcast The Joe Rogan experience questions the usefulness of vaccines for young people and recommends unproven treatments like ivermectin against the coronavirus. Earlier this month, Rogan came under fire from more than 1,000 American scientists, doctors and professors, who in an open letter labeled him “a threat to the public welfare.”

For now, the guns are silent: Young removed the letter from his site, and both his and Rogan’s catalog are still on Spotify. It is not the first time that Young would leave the streaming service: in 2015 he already removed his music because he thought the sound quality was too low.
