Residents of Oudezijds Voorburgwal are not exactly surprised that the police suspects that laughing gas was involved last night when four British tourists ended up in the canal with their cars.

‘That could be just like that, laughing gas is used here, well, actually all kinds of things, of course,’ says a local resident. ‘We also thought it was very strange that that car ended up in the middle of the canal, you have to do something for that.’
The people AT5 speaks today were ultimately not the rescuers of the foursome, but they are not surprised that several people immediately jumped into the water from the side. Because that is also their neighborhood, they say.
And not a bad word about the tourists who manage to find the Red Light District again: ‘I really like the atmosphere in the neighborhood. It is the people who make a little more effort to come.
