Within three days, a negligent homicide case almost never went to trial. The urgency was such that the Valais Cantonal Court took less than two weeks to rule on the appeals of the family of the mountain biker killed in August 2013 and the prosecutor Grégoire Comtesse, against six to eighteen months in normal times. Because on July 15, the district judge Pierre Gapany had estimated that the trial could not finally take place until a technical expertise was not entered in the file. “The most appropriate way, if not the only one, to try to establish a posteriori what could have happened”, estimated the magistrate. And this twelve days after having qualified this same request of the defense of “irrelevant”.
