Neckermann is requesting 5 million state aid in Belgium

Neckermann Belgium is asking for 5 million euros in state aid to survive the corona crisis. Neckermann CEO Laurent Allardin confirmed this to De Tijd and L’Echo on Tuesday.

Neckermann saw travel sales collapse after an excellent start to the year in mid-March due to the lockdown. When that ended in mid-June, the trips went smoothly over the counter for four weeks, but then sales came to a halt again. “We are selling 5 to 10 percent of the normal volume, all last minutes,” Allardin explains the current situation.

Neckermann received a loan of 2.6 million euros from the bank BNP Paribas in June, with a guarantee from Flanders and Wallonia through their investment companies PMV and SRIW. But that loan is not enough: “Our business will not run at 100 percent again until 2023,” Allardin expects. He is now looking at both the regions and the federal level (investment company FPIM) for new support, and hopes to receive an answer within two weeks.

The Spanish travel group Wamos took over 62 of the 91 travel agencies from Thomas Cook in Belgium, after it went bankrupt a year ago. They continued with the name Neckermann. In the meantime, three stores (Brussels Louise, Herentals and Lier) have been closed permanently.
