Nearly 5 Thousand People Get Monkey Pox, Beware of Symptoms and Transmission

JawaPos.com – The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that the monkeypox disease, which is currently widespread in the world, has not yet become a public health emergency and has not declared it a pandemic. The latest data, as many as 4,700 people in more than dozens of countries in the world were affected by this disease and 1 person died in Nigeria. Singapore has also reported this case. Individuals are asked to be aware of the symptoms and modes of transmission.

Specialist in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Epidemiologist for Public Health, dr. Céline Gounder explained that the monkeypox virus is currently not only reported to infect men, but also women. As of June 27, the European Centers for Disease Prevention and Control had reported 10 cases of women infected with monkeypox.

According to dr. Gounder, this disease is generally a mild disease. However, it can be serious or even deadly for people with compromised immune systems. Anyone?

“It can be serious in pregnant women, fetuses or newborns, mothers who are breastfeeding, young children, and people with severe skin diseases such as eczema,” he said as reported by CBS News, Wednesday (29/6).
