nearly 450,000 infected nurses worldwide

By Le Figaro with Reuters

The Covid-19 pandemic has killed more than 600 nurses around the world and nearly 450,000 of them have been infected with the new coronavirus, according to a new estimate released Wednesday June 3 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

Extrapolating the data collected in around thirty countries, this organization, which brings together more than 130 national nursing associations and represents more than 20 million professionals, estimated that the mortality linked to Covid-19 in the profession had more than doubled in over the past month. “These numbers continue to grow”Howard Catton, director general of ICN, told Reuters Television.

If health professionals pay a heavy price in the current health crisis, precise data are still lacking on this subject, according to the ICN. On average, 7% of all COVID-19 cases (the lung disease developed by some of the patients infected with the coronavirus), concern caregivers.
