Belgium will likely reach the milestone of 10,000 deaths from the coronavirus at the start of the week. The number of deaths linked to the coronavirus amounted to 9,988 this Sunday. Half occurred in nursing homes (4,943), almost as many in hospitals (4,923). The figure of 10,000, although symbolic, acts as an indicator of the violence of the epidemic that our small country is experiencing. No dramatization: we are very far, at the end of summer, from the murderous reports communicated at the height of spring, with a peak at 342 deaths on April 12. The number of deaths is certainly increasing, but of incomparable magnitude: 10 deaths on average per day over the past week, according to Sciensano.
