Heat vs. Celtics: is Gordon Hayward returning to Boston?
In the previous series, Boston had to do without Gordon Hayward. The former All-Star has not played a game since Game 1 of the first round series against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a bad ankle injury. Before Game 3, however, Hayward was listed as “questionable” for the first time since, loudly ESPN-Information, the Celtics hope to be able to get Hayward off the bank for at least a few minutes.
The Celtics could use Hayward’s support. Most recently, the starters had to tear down a lot of minutes because Boston does not have a really broad squad, especially on the wing there is a lack of quality in width. Hayward would normally bring these with him: In the course of the season, the 30-year-old has scored 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists, and he is also one of the best passers in the team.
Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics: The starting position before game 3
Even if the series cannot be decided in this game, it is still clear that Boston is already about survival: A team has never returned from a 0-3 deficit in the playoffs, that will also be crazy in this one Year will probably not be any different. Especially since the Celtics are still dealing with an incredibly solid team.
In the playoffs, the Heat are 10-1 so far, the only defeat was in a comparatively unimportant game (game 4 against Milwaukee), when this series was almost decided. Miami always manages to come back after sometimes high backlogs, even against Boston they have been two-digit behind in both games so far, only to then win in the final phase thanks to a plus in cleverness.
Miami can always rely on its big three of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and the last outstanding Goran Dragic in the decisive situations, and Tyler Herro from the bank has so far delivered great performances. The Heat never let themselves be disturbed and fight unconditionally.
Normally this can also be said about the Celtics and at times they were also able to call up their class in this series, but there was a lack of consistency – and after two high leads in a row were lost, after game 2 the emotions apparently boiled over.
In particular, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown reportedly clashed and had to be separated from each other, even if the situation was subsequently downplayed. The day after the game, Celtics coach Brad Stevens met with the leaders of his team for a joint discussion.
The Celtics were actually favored in the series, but the momentum now clearly speaks for Miami. “We just have to be prepared to win the next game,” said Jayson Tatum nonetheless. “It’s not about winning four out of five games, we are focusing on one game after the other.”
