Jaren Jackson Jr. has a meniscus tear in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season. This was announced by the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. JJJ had played 22 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, but apparently injured themselves during the game.
The franchise reported that Jackson Jr. had experienced an “unstable landing” after colliding with an opponent while defending a throw during the 99: 109 bankruptcy against the Pelicans.
Although he won’t be able to play for the Grizzlies this season, the team expects the 20-year-old to recover completely from the injury. In the current season, the Big Man averaged 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks at 46.9 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from downtown.
Together with top rookie Ja Morant, JJJ led the grizzlies to a strong eighth place in the Western Conference until the corona-related interruption of the NBA season in mid-March. With Jackson Jr.’s injury, the grizzlies’ playoff hopes, which have lost all three games since restart, have taken a heavy blow.
