NBA News – After Kobe Bryant’s death: widow sues over photos of accident site

A lawsuit filed by Vanessa Bryant against Los Angeles County began on Wednesday. After the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, rescue workers are said to have taken photos of the accident site and passed them around internally. The widow is now demanding compensation.

Longtime Lakers star and Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles in January 2020. Vanessa Bryant’s attorney Luis Li said in a statement that photos from the scene of the accident were shared among police officers and firefighters as “visual gossip” and “for fun.”

sea ESPN Vanessa Bryant cried several times during her lawyer’s statement. She suffered emotional distress as a result and is now suing Los Angeles County for unspecified damages.

The defense attorney argued that the photos were a necessary tool for first responders to share information. In addition, the pictures were never made public and have since been deleted. “Two and a half years later, no photos of the district have surfaced in the media, none can be found online, and plaintiffs admit they never saw them,” said Attorney J. Mira Hashmall.

In a separate process last year, two families were awarded a total of $2.5 million in damages for the photos. Vanessa Bryant’s lawsuit has been consolidated with that of another victim’s relative.

Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other occupants of the helicopter died in the accident on January 26, 2020. The pilot had apparently lost his bearings in a dense cloud, which led to the crash.
