NBA: Karl-Anthony Towns shocks the Knicks

Karl-Anthony Towns guided the Minnesota Timberwolves to a narrow win in New York. The Golden State Warriors, on the other hand, have no trouble with the Detroit Pistons, thanks in part to Klay Thompson’s best of the season.

• Emotional evening for Karl-Anthony Towns. The Minnesota Timberwolves center decided a tight game in New York when he and-oneed a drive on Julius Randle with 29 seconds left to give the Wolves a 111-109 lead. Towns’ mother was from nearby New Jersey and died of a COVID infection last year.
• “I felt like my MSG moment was coming today and today was my biggest moment,” Towns said after the game. “It was great how I silenced the hall.” On the other side, Randle was the tragic figure, the forward not only committed the foul against KAT, but also missed a possible free throw in the following attack to compensate. Instead, Patrick Beverley raised from the line and a three by Alec Burks missed its target.
• Wolves have now won six of their last eight games to move up to seventh in the west. Guarantors alongside Towns were Anthony Edwards (21) and D’Angelo Russell (17), coming off the bench, Jaylen Nowell scored 14 points in 23 minutes. The guests led by up to 12 points in the first half before the Knicks turned the game around in the meantime.
• The main reason for this was Kemba Walker, who scored 17 of his 19 points after the break. In the final section, however, Walker hardly got any more support, especially top scorer Evan Fournier (27, 10/17 FG) dived completely. Randle (21, 6/15, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 blocks) scraped up a triple-double while RJ Barrett (17, 6/16, 7 turnovers) provided more shadow than light. New York’s Bigs Mitchell Robinson and Taj Gibson both fouled out.
