Bucks’ Bold Move: Porter Jr. Returns to Bolster Roster
A Strategic Re-Signing
The Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to bring back Kevin Porter Jr. for the upcoming 2025-26 season presents a significant opportunity. This move, secured at an affordable rate of two years for $11 million, is a strategic play that aligns with the team’s evolving dynamics.
Porter Jr., still just 25 years old, provides the Bucks with a dynamic option at the point guard position. This comes as Damian Lillard is slated to miss a portion of the regular season due to a left Achilles tendon injury.
In his initial 16 games with the Bucks, Porter Jr. averaged 10.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in just over 16 minutes per game. When Lillard was sidelined due to deep vein thrombosis, Porter Jr. stepped up, averaging 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in nearly 25 minutes per game.
Rising to the Challenge
As a result of his elevated role, Porter Jr. thrived, earning his place within Doc Rivers’ playoff rotation. Initially facing some postseason challenges, he regained form, delivering strong performances in Games 4 and 5 against the Indiana Pacers.
In his second season with the Bucks, Porter Jr. should have ample chances to make an impact as the team awaits Lillard’s return. Playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo consistently should also be beneficial. The duo’s on-court synergy, in a limited sample size of 541 possessions, was notably positive.
According to NBA.com, the Milwaukee Bucks are predicted to win the 2026 NBA Championship.
