1/31
The balls of the draft lottery have been drawn and we finally know which team can vote in which position. SPOX goes through the mock draft and introduces the best talent. Who will the Timberwolves choose?
2/31
Pick 1 (Minnesota Timberwolves): Anthony Edwards (Georgia, SG) – Stats: 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists at 40.2 percent FG and 29.4 percent threes.
3/31
This year doesn’t have a clear number one, but Edwards is probably the most interesting player as a scorer on the wing. The 18-year-old is a gunner who also has good athleticism and could become a good defender.
4/31
Pick 2 (Golden State Warriors): James Wiseman (Memphis, C) – Stats: 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks at 76.9 percent FG in three games. (Leaving college early after inconsistencies over money borrowed from Coach Penny Hardaway).
5/31
The numbers are a bit blind, as Wiseman only played 3 games – and that against some weak opponents. His athleticism stands out, a defender a la Gobert slumbers in him. He can offer little offensive. It’s questionable whether GSW will keep the pick.
6/31
Pick 3 (Charlotte Hornets): Obi Toppin (Dayton, PF / C) – 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, 1.0 steals at 63.3 percent FG and 39, 0 percent threesome.
7/31
Toppin is 22 years old, but arguably the best college big. The Big Man is a dunk machine, but he also has a soft hand and is very flexible offensively. He seems NBA-ready and should be an immediate starter in Charlotte.
8/31
Pick 4 (Chicago Bulls): LaMelo Ball (Illawara / Australia, PG) – Stats: 31.3 minutes, 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists at 37.5 percent FG and 25.0 threes.
9/31
The Bulls need a PG and Ball has a chance to be the best playmaker of the year. He showed his outstanding understanding of the game in Australia, but the throw worries like Lonzo. Defensively, he’s not as strong as his brother.
10/31
Pick 5 (Cleveland Cavaliers): Onyeka Okongwu (USC, PF / C) – 16.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 2.7 blocks at 61.6 percent FG and 25 percent threes (with a total of only four attempts!).
11/31
Okongwu is a guy like Montrezl Harrell who has a powerful engine and delivers hustle plays on the assembly line. One of the best defenders this year. A bit small and not stretch big at the moment. I could learn from love.
12/31
Pick 6 (Atlanta Hawks): Tyrese Haliburton (Iowa State, PG) – 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2.5 steals at 50.4 percent FG, and 41.9 percent threes
13/31
His game is bursting with intelligence and hides so many weaknesses. His release is slow and he’s not the fastest. Still, he always finds ways to make plays and he’s very stable defensively. Could be the perfect addition to Young.
14/31
Pick 7 (Detroit Pistons): Deni Avdija (Maccabi / Israel, F) – Stats: 4.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists at 43.6 percent FG and 27.7 percent threes.
15/31
Avdija saw minutes in the EuroLeague, is an intelligent player. His athleticism is above average at euro level, which is why he can defend several positions. The litter has to get better with him too.
16/31
Pick 8 (New York Knicks): Isaac Okoro (Auburn, F) – Stats: 12.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 blocks at 51.4 percent FG and 29.0 percent threes.
17/31
Okoro has huge potential. He is probably the best wing defender of this year who can be ranked at the top athletically. The throw is still missing, but he can pass a little and make plays near the ring.
18/31
Pick 9 (Washington Wizards): Devin Vassell (Florida State, F) – Stats: 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists at 49 percent FG and 41.5 percent threes.
19/31
Good shooter who can also pass a little. The question will be whether he can create for himself in the NBA as well. Has the potential to become the best 3-and-D player of his year. Could be a good fit next to Wall and Beal.
20/31
Pick 10 (Phoenix Suns): Killian Hayes (ratiopharm Ulm / Germany, PG) – Stats: 11.6 points, 5.3 assists, 1.4 steals at 49.7 percent FG and 21.8 percent threes.
21/31
Was initially visibly overwhelmed as a playmaker in Ulm, but recently limited his turnover. The litter also got a little better. His strengths lie in his overview, his athleticism and the great defensive potential.
22/31
Pick 11 (San Antonio Spurs): Precious Achiuwa (Memphis, PF/C) – 15,8 Punkte und 10,8 Rebounds.
23/31
Due to the Wiseman departure, Achiuwa rages mainly on the five, he has the athleticism for it. His defensive instincts are not yet developed, and he still has to work on the throw. Above all, an upside pick.
24/31
Pick 12 (Sacramento Kings): Aaron Nesmith (Vanderbilt, F) – Stats: 23 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists at 51.2 percent FG and 52.2 percent three.
25/31
One of the best scorers this season (over 50 percent threesome in 8 attempts) who is not the fastest. In addition, his passing skills are still limited.
26/31
Pick 13 (New Orleans Pelicans): Jaden McDaniels (Washington, F) – Stats: 13.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 blocks at 40.5 percent FG and 33.9 percent threes.
27/31
Incredibly long forward with the potential to hold multiple positions. Good finisher on the ring, dribbling could be a bit tighter. The throw is still inconsistent, the decision-making can be expanded – sometimes disappears in games.
28/31
Pick 14 (Boston Celtics from the Memphis Grizzlies): Theo Maledon (ASVEL / France, PG) – 7.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists at 45.6 percent FG and 36.7 percent threes.
29/31
Long playmaker who hardly got a chance in the EuroLeague. Throws the ball too often, but has good facilities.
30/31
Pick 15 (Orlando Magic): Cole Anthony (North Carolina, G) – Stats: 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals at 38.0 percent FG and 34.8 percent threes.
31/31
A scorer who can create himself and other throws, at UNC he suffered from the lack of spacing. Has to work on litter selection, he could be a little too small in defense for that.
