Ni a colossal performance by Rudy Gobert chaf on Stephen Curry’s 33rd birthday. The French powerhouse of the Jazz had a monstrous game with 24 points and 28 rebounds, but the Warriors took the victory 131-119 and ended a four-game losing streak, the worst of their season.
Curry was one point short of writing down the years he turns. I finished with 32 with / 6/9 on triples. He also dished out nine assists that leave him only one to lead the Warriors in history. It adds up to 4,854, one less than Gay Rodgers. To defeat the NBA’s leading Jazz, the point guard was not alone. I counted on the great help of Draymond, who signed a triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to which he added four ball recoveries. Andrew Wiggins, meanwhile, finished with 28 points.
Those of Utah succumbed despite counting the brutal Gobert, who broke both his rebounding record and that of the franchise. Also, I put in four plugs. The French pvot was one of four Jazz players to reach 20 points. So did Mike Conley (23 and six assists), Donovan Mitchell (24 + 4) and Jordan Clarkson (21).
The Warriors took command soon and thanks to their great defensive work and their movement of the ball and their success they took a comfortable income to the locker room after the first half (67-54). After the break, Gobert wreaked havoc and only a few minutes of respite allowed James Wiseman to build strength in the zone. The Jazz came up with options at the end (118-111, with 3:50 left), but Curry emerged in the final stretch to take responsibility. He wanted to give away a victory and he succeeded.
