Nayib Bukele incites “hate and violence”, say deputies | El Salvador News

The deputies of the FMLN and ARENA said that President Bukele incites violence by saying: “If you lived one day in El Salvador, believe me you would burn all the politicians together.”

The statements of President Nayib Bukele last Thursday before officials of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where he said that “if they lived one day in El Salvador, believe me they would burn all the politicians together,” the Assembly burned down yesterday.

“I believe that the president wants to be set on fire also because he is a politician,” said deputy Alberto Romero of ARENA.

Both the tricolor deputy and the FMLN fraction chief, Nidia Díaz, agreed that the president’s claims are “inciting hatred and violence” against the deputies.

Even Romero explained that there have already been cases that people on the street have verbally assaulted parliamentarians.

“He is generating hate in this country. I make a call to the dictator’s apprentice who already goes down and dedicates himself to work, ”Romero argued yesterday in plenary.

Díaz said that the country should not return to the past and that they do not need a president who is “authoritarian and fascist”, who by his investiture Bukele is in the constitutional obligation to promote peace and dialogue.

“Unfortunately, President Bukele is still scary. He is in the clash, what he reflects is his authoritarian and fascist vision that he has and that is what it is, that we must take measures not to return to the past, we do not want a president who lacks tolerance and the focus of plurality ” , explained the parliamentarian Efemelenista.

He added that Bukele “although he lowered his gun a little” because of the precautionary measures issued by the Constitutional Chamber when he invaded the Assembly with the Army and the Police last Sunday, February 9, continues with his “incendiary speech” and “has a list the gun ”to stalk deputies.

He said the request for interpellation of security officials becomes more relevant after demonstrating the military force of the Army recently in the capital center at a public event.

However, ARENA deputies explained that the interpellation petitions against the Minister of Defense, René Francis Merino Monroy; and of the Minister of Security, Rogelio Rivas, will be analyzed in the Political Commission, since those resolutions will be binding, that is, they could be dismissed for the events of February 9 in the Assembly.

The deputies discussed yesterday in plenary the creation of a special commission at the request of the FMLN to investigate the Minister of Defense, Monroy; to Security, Rivas; to the director of the State Intelligence Agency (OIE), Peter Dumas; and to the director of the Police, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, for the events of last Sunday, February 9 and for the allegations of “harassment and political persecution” of the deputies of ARENA and the FMLN.
