Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – According to the Freiburg forest scientist Rita Silva, trees are suffering from the long-lasting drought and the high air temperatures. “The trees are under stress,” said Silva when asked. In Freiburg, she observed that the first leaves had already fallen at the end of July.
Losing leaves as early as summer is a negative effect and can weaken a tree’s vitality, Silva said. The scientist researches, among other things, the health effects of urban greenery.
At the beginning of the month, Silva, together with the Freiburg scientist Jürgen Bauhus, called on citizens to regularly water a street tree in the neighborhood.
