Natural Immunity Declines, Someone Who Has Been Stricken By Vulnerable Virus

GALAMEDIA – The natural immunity of someone who has been infected corona virus will experience a decrease in the virus for several months.

In a study released on medrxiv.org on Saturday (11/7/2020) and not yet published in peer-reviewed medical journals, the antibody response may begin to decrease 20 to 30 days after Covid-19 symptoms appear. Antibodies are proteins made by the body to fight infections.

“Our study shows the binding response of IgM and IgA decreases after 20-30 days,” the researchers wrote, quoted by CNN, Tuesday (07/14/2020).

Researchers also found the severity of the Covid-19 symptoms could determine the extent of the antibody response.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC US) once said that generally, the body needs one to three weeks after infection to make antibodies.

While the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that people have been infected corona virus not necessarily immune from viruses. That is, a person may be infected repeatedly.

However, this new study has limitations, so further research is needed to determine whether the same results will appear among a larger group of patients and what data is shown over a longer period of time.

“This study has important implications when considering protection against re-infection with SARS-CoV-2 and vaccine protection durability,” the researchers wrote in their report.
