Doctors in India are protesting against the Rajasthan Right to Health (RTH) Bill, which gives residents the right to free equitable healthcare services including emergency treatment without prepayment at any health institution in the state . The bill also stops government and private hospitals from refusing treatment. Passed on 21 March, the Act also requires a separate fund to be formed to facilitate free treatment in private hospitals. Medical professionals are concerned about the lack of clarity around how the expenses incurred at private hospitals will be reimbursed and how the term “medical emergency” will be defined. The Indian Medical Association has asked all states to observe a nationwide black day on 27 March and also called upon regional branches to pass resolutions against the Act.
